Collège Boréal, CEWIL Canada, NSS Canada, and Dynamic Earth announced Tuesday that they will collaborate to start “Projet MOSS” in Sudbury, Ontario, this winter.

The Miner Operated Survey System (MOSS) is a piece of underground surveying software that works with a variety of Leica robotic total stations. When performing mark-ups, MOSS incorporates mine design requirements and drawings and gives real-time information to miners, engineers, and geologists.

For many years, Collège Boréal has trained students utilising surveying equipment from local mines. This initiative, supported in part by the Government of Canada’s Work-Intergrated Learning programme, CEWIL Canada’s iHub, and NSS Canada, provides Collège Boréal with access to cutting-edge surveying equipment and technology for hands-on learning in Dynamic Earth’s underground mine.

“NSS Canada is thrilled to be expanding into the school system to deliver innovative technologies to students and future professionals,” stated Bruno Lalonde, President of NSS Canada. “Our objective is to guarantee that students enter the labour force better prepared for the market and industry.” We are dedicated to remaining at the cutting edge of mining and technology while providing students with the tools they need to be successful once they leave the classroom.”

MOSS will be used by students from construction, engineering technology, and mining to execute day-to-day duties such as Production Surveys, Development Surveys, and Mine Planning. Francis Nepveu, a Collège Boréal graduate and NSS Canada’s own technical support manager, will oversee this project alongside other NSS workers to introduce the new technology in an underground environment.

“Collège Boréal is happy to be teaching the next generation of highly trained mining employees.” “Partnerships like this one prioritise students by providing them with firsthand technical knowledge and significant experience before they enter the workforce,” said Lyne Michaud, VP academics at Collège Boréal.
