A international information technology firm is establishing a presence in Nova Scotia with the goal of creating more than 1,000 new jobs.
Cognizant, one of the world’s largest technology and professional services firms, intends to establish a new global technology and service delivery centre in Halifax.
Nova Scotia has authorised two payroll rebate agreements for the firm, which means that if it reaches its job-creation targets, Cognizant may be rewarded with up to $27 million in public funds.
According to the government, the tax money generated by the additional employment will be greater than the amount spent on the refund. Only until the enterprise has created genuine wages for the Nova Scotia economy are rebates awarded.
