MULTAN: Members of the transgender community went to school for the first time on Thursday, a day after a special institute for their group opened in Multan.
Nearly 18 transgender children have registered in the school that serves their neighbourhood.
Punjab’s Secretary School South Punjab Ehtisham Anwar opened the Government Comprehensive School for Girls on Wednesday.
Anwar previously stated that schools for the transgender population will be established in Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur.
Multan’s school serves especially to the transgender population, with programmes ranging from preschool to intermediate.
Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas, on the other hand, praised the team that launched the school. He went on to say that the provincial government had supplied them with “everything necessary for schooling.”
